Smeared Ink Saturday....practicing with digital papers

As a DT member for Smeared Ink, Saturdays are my project posting days.  Today I bring you another Femdom project...this time merged with digital papers from Susan's Crafty ChaosI used the awesome 6 paper set called "Gothic Bruise".  Isn't it awesome?  Go to Susan's site to check out the rest of the papers in this pack as well as her many other cool designs.  I know I will have to get several more sets.  For you non-digi folks, no sweat.  The papers can be printed and used traditionally so there is no need for photoshop or paint shop and no need to work digitally.

This is my first attempt at using digital papers and I challenged myself to do the whole project digitally as learning photoshop was one of my goals for the new year.

I also decided to enter the Smeared and Smudged "Very Sketchy" challenge for January.  The sketch can be found here.  Here is my take on the sketch:

The butterflies were freebies from "The Vintage Moth"

Emmy's Challenge...BLING IT ON

Well ladies this week we have a very special challenge for you as it's for a very special girl. Back during our 12 days of Christmas we had a special prize, which was to be a Custom digi image drawn by our very own Betty. A special young crafter named Emmy won! Her digi is now ready, and the DT have all used her image this week for our Bling It On Challenge. So this week, since Emmy LOVES Glitter (and lets be honest, who doesnt?? ) we're challenging you to

Bling It On

Isn't Emmy's fairy the cutest? You could be one of the very few people to own this lovely image if you win this weeks challenge.

Emmy and her mom got to join us this week so check out their cards, along with the other ladies on the DT at the SBC blog.

Here is my take on the challenge:

I colored Emmy's fairy with Copic markers and accented her with Atyou Spica gel pens and Distress Stickles.  I also added stickles to some of the flowers.

Cheers!

Smeared Ink DT Sponsor Hop - Delicious Doodles

Today the Smeared Ink DT brings you our January Sponsor Blog Hop with projects made from awesome images provided by Delicious Doodles.  Delicious Doodles is sponsoring the Forum's "Very Sketchy" challenge and the "Photo Inspiration" challenge.  Check out the forum links for details.

My project today contains two stamps.  The foreground stamp is the lovely "Wistful Fairy" from Delicious Doodles.  Isn't she gorgeous?!  I had to find the perfect background for such a beautiful creature and I figured what better than a garden?  In my stash I had this equally lovely garden scene.  I believe it's a Thomas Kinkade stamp.  Although the background has vivid colors and is quite detailed, the Wistful Fairy has no trouble taking center stage!

The background image was stamped with Memento ink and the Delicious Doodles image was a digi that I printed out.  Everything is colored with Copic markers.  Yep.  Markers.  I was so excited that this project appears to be painted (in my opinion, anyway).  Unfortunately, my BV markers started to run dry and I had no refills so I couldn't blend the fairy's dress as well as I wanted.  I still think she looks fabulous!  I used distress stickles and atyou spica gel pens for glitter accents on the fairy's gloves and wings.  I don't think my scanner picked up on the glitter too well.  I also used a white gel pend for highlights and a black fine point sharpie on parts of the gate.  I applied some stampendous embellishments that look like little jewels to the fairy's gloves, crown, and dress.

So where's my hybrid stuff that I'm so fond of?  Well, pretty much everything is handmade this time around.  I originally printed the fairy out at about 8 inches for my art journal cover, however I wanted to do something a little more special since the image is so stunning.  My Kinkade stamp is only 4x6 inches so obviously the fairy wasn't going to fit and I ran out of time to color a new one.  I scanned my fairy and my completed garden scene and uploaded them to photoshop.  I kept the garden scene as a JPEG image, but made the fairy into a PNG image.  I then resized her as slipped her into the garden scene.  A perfect fit!

Wow!  This was probably the most labor intensive project that I've done in awhile, but it was so worth it!  Even my husband was impressed with this one!   I hope you enjoy viewing my project as much as I enjoyed making it.  Oh, don't worry.  I'm not going all soft and romantic on you guys.  Delicious Doodles has plenty of skulls and darker images that I plan on getting in the near future!  There's a little something for everyone, no matter what your crafting style, so be sure to check them out!

Oooops!  I almost forgot the blog list!  I think we go live at 9am pacific time on 01-26-2011.  I'm off to bed so I am posting early.  Feel free to go in any order you want for the hop.  Please leave everyone a little bit of love as everyone worked so hard on their projects.  Thanks for hopping!

art journal...crash

I spent the week working on this.  Although not very fancy or detailed, my progress was slow due to healing from pneumonia and recovering from a car accident.  Luckily, the art journal project is 10 minutes a day, not a page per day.

The theme, obviously, is "crash".  I wanted to record the events of my accident so I wouldn't forget the details.  Basically, I was going straight and got hit by a motorist turning left.  The hit caused me to go off the road and crash head on into a brick landscaping wall.  Ouch!  I did have my safety belt on and the airbag did deploy.  It has been painful week, but I am slowly healing.

I used copic markers on this page as well as distress ink and a black sharpie.  I used time holtz stamps as well as my mystery bang and boom stamps.  I don't remember who made those.

Cheers!

Smeared Ink Saturday 2.0

Well, it's not really 2.0.  I just wanted to sound fancy.  Today I bring you hybrid projects.  These are all made using Smeared Ink Stamps along with digital backgrounds.

The following projects were just made this afternoon.  They use Smeared Ink's "Vanity" from "The Symbology of Angels" rubber stamp set.  He is colored with copic markers and was then scanned onto my computer.  I was playing with photoshop today.  I do pretty well digitally with picnik on Flickr, but I don't really know too much in photoshop.  I recently learned how to turn JPEG files into PNG files which basically keeps the original image, but makes the background transparent.  That's my layman's way of phrasing it anyway.  What this allows one to do is insert the PNG image onto any background or scene.

Now for TMI (too much information).  I just recovered from pneumonia and then had a massive car accident.  Don't worry.  I'm bruised, not broken.  You can knock me down, but you can't keep me down!  Unfortunately the pneumonia and the bad chest and rib contusions from the accident put a crimp in my romantic life.  Please forgive me if the following projects are a bit risque!

I call this my Stripper Series:

This sassy lass is from Smeared Ink's "Femdom" digital stamp set.  The background is one I purchased from Itkupilli.

Here is the same image as above from Smeared Ink's "Femdom" digital stamp set. The background is one I purchased from Itkupilli.

Below are projects I made for the Smeared and Smudged members' blog hop that was held on 01/19/2011.
They all utilize images from Smeared Ink's "Femdom" digital stamp set and were colored with copic markers.  The first and last projects don't use any digital embellishments.  The middle project uses a digital background and sentiment made using picnik on Flickr.

I hope you've enjoyed my creations.  For more eye-candy and inspiration, check out the Smeared and Smudged forum to see what the ladies and gents have been making.

A selfless Birthday Wish from a 13 year old

Hello everyone! I am hoping to reach many of you with this special post...
Betty's daughter, Rio, is turning 13!  Every year Betty will ask the kids what they want for their birthday.

The rest of this post is in Betty's own words:

Money, a trip, a party, or an overnight stay at Disneyland.... Rio came to me and said, "Mom, is it really really my choice what I get for my birthday?" I told her of course! So she says, "Ok, this year mom, I want money, but can I do anything at all with it? I mean anything I want, mom?" Again, I said of course. "  Okay, I want my birthday money to be donated to the children of St. Jude's hospital so they can have a special day, or whatever the money is needed for. I don't want to have money to just blow when I can help other kids that can't get out of bed, or go outside. That's what I want for my birthday!"

Of course I was already choking on my tears before she finished her sentence! What a marvelous request, selfless and special! I had a special image made for her 13th birthday, and I have not told her about it, or shown it to her. I am asking for a very special request myself in honor of my daughter's selflessness.

The image is now available for $3.00, I am asking you all to purchase this special stamp and help me bring my daughter special birthday wishes by mailing off a card you make with the image to her... but wait that's not all... all I ask is for the special card to be mailed because the $3.00 made from every purchase will be donated to St. Jude's again in Rio's honor. I am planning on taking her after her birthday to the hospital with the money we raise from this image and her birthday money as requested and giving it all to the hospital!

Her birthday is Feb. 8th.  If you all could find it in your hearts to give my little girl that special card my mailing it to her I know it would make her day so special... she is always so grateful of the little things and my hope is to fill that mailbox of ours to the brim with Birthday cards! I plan to gather all cards mailed to her from now until the 8th, and secretly putting them all in the mailbox along with her very favorite chocolates: York Peppermint Patties and Peanut Butter cups! That evening after her birthday dinner I am going to ask her to walk down the street with me to the cluster boxes and have her open the mailbox (I am going to pretend I have not checked the mail all day of course) then BAM! they all pop out at her! Whoohooo! She will be thrilled once she realizes what exactly all those letters are.

So, would you all be willing to help Rio raise a little money for the kids and send off a card? If so here is our mailing address:

Rio Roberts
PO BOX 132314
Big Bear Lake, CA 92315

You can purchase the image at simplybettystamps.com under Rio the Birthday Girl digi! She is the first of six new Emos soon to come!

Here is the image: what do you think of it? Pretty cute, huh? She's the special birthday diva turning 13!! I will run this image for $3.00 until the 8th of Feb. after that she will be gone for good. So please be aware that she will be a very limited edition digi! She may later make a debut in rubber but I am not making any promises, I will try my best if there is enough interest in her to be made into Rubber. Thank you all for your support! And please please please spread the word about this special fund raiser. Thank you all again!

Smeared and Smudged Member Blog Hop

It's that time again! Time for the Smeared and Smudged member blog hop!

Want to know what our theme is? Well since it's the New Year, how about we do something NEW!! That just means that we want you to try something you have never done before. Use a stamp that you have never used, a color you have never used. Anything NEW to you!!! That's it.

Here are my offerings:

My first project is the first ALL DIGITAL project I have ever made. I took my Smeared Ink digis from the "Femdom" set and made them into PNG files and opened them up in photoshop. I then used a JPEG freebie from Dezniaworld as my background and made a little scene with everything. I used no color which is unusual for me as I love bold, bright colors. I wanted to keep the vintage feel in this project. I love the way it turned out and am so excited that I finally learned how to do something in photoshop!  Here is the end result (click photo for a larger view):

My second piece is a bit dark. I think it's artistic, but my idea of art can be a bit twisted at times.

I took an image from the "Femdom" set, which is a new set of mine, and colored her lightly with my copic markers. I then scanned her and uploaded her to flickr. I used picnik photo editing to create the texture and background and claw marks.

I hope you've enjoyed my creations! Tune back in on Saturday as that is my Smeared Ink Saturday posting day. I just got two new Smeared Ink stamp sets and will be getting inky with them ASAP!

Art Journal Everyday...page 5

Here is a snippet from Balzer's Designs' blog about art journaling:

"For the past year I've been keeping a daily art journal. (I talked about it a little in this post.)

It's super low stress. I don't do a finished art journal page every day. That would be way too hard for me. Instead I add a little something every day. For me, the point is to open that art journal every single day and do something creative in it -- even if it's just for 10 minutes.
I have schlepped that art journal with me on every trip I've taken this year. It has come with me to Paris, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Los Angeles, and many places in between!
It's half scrapbook/journal and half artistic experimentation/expression. I don't make any effort to make the pages look pretty. (One of the reasons I rarely share it here on the blog.) If they do, that's awesome. If they don't, that's fine too.
I'll admit that I have missed a few days along the way. Most of November seems to be missing. But for the most part, I've kept up and at least put something in its pages every single day of 2010. Wow!
And now we're heading into 2011 and I'm more committed than ever to make my art journal a part of every single day.
Want to play along with me?"

--------

The gals and I over at Smeared and Smudged are taking part in this journey.  What I share may be silly or emotional, depending on the day.  Perhaps it will take me a week or two to finish a complex page.  Some days I may overload you with several simple designs and doodles.  My goal is just to create for at least ten minutes per day, everyday.  I'm finding first thing in the morning and again before I go to bed work best for me.  So far I just have marker doodles as I'm still recovering from illness and haven't had the energy to get my schtuff out.  I figure my more extensive work will take place on weekends and days off work.  Anyway, enough babble.  Here's my contribution for today.  Colorful.  Primitive.  Silly.

Enjoy!

Cheers!

Art Journal Everyday

Many of the gals over at the Smeared and Smudged Forum are participating in the year long art journaling project inspired by Balzer Designs.  I've decided to join them on their journey.  Here are the first three pages of my journal:

This is just a start.  The whole art journaling thing is new to me.  I hope to incorporate some collage and mixed-media into my journal, but for now I am just using what I have on hand.  I am hoping to gain some insight into myself throughout this journey, process my stress better, and perhaps figure out what I want to be when I grow up.  Wish me luck.  Better yet, join me on this journey!

Cheers!

Nicole (see link below) is having an awesome giveaway!!!

Smeared Ink Saturday

Saturday is my posting day for Smeared Ink DT projects.  I'm going to kick-off this Saturday Old-Skool.  Yup.  I'm bringing classic back and unleashing my inner freak.

I went back into my stamp stash and brought out an oldie, but a goodie...my Mermaid Carnie Stamp!  I think this was the second Smeared Ink stamp set I owned so it holds a special place in my heart.  She is stamped with Memento Ink and colored with Copic markers.  The background is a scenery stamp, but I don't remember which brand.  The sun and clouds are colored with Copic markers as well.  I added shimmer with spica gel pens.  I'm out of my good paper so my coloring is a bit smeared, but I think that adds to the charm of this piece.  The matting cardstock is DCWV.

Fast forward to one of my more recent Smeared Ink Stamp sets to ring in 2011:

This hottie is "Vanity" from Smeared Ink's "The Symbology of Angels" rubber stamp set.  Sorry.  I just HAD to objectify him a bit.  The first project with Vanity is more romantic...my version of a Valentine's Day card for a bestie.  The second project with Vanity is all out stripper-rific!  Both projects were stamped with Memento Ink and colored with Copic markers.  Everything else, including the rose in Vanity's teeth, was digitally added.  I love hybrid projects!

I hope you've enjoyed the eye-candy.  Tune back in next week for more inky goodness.  What?  Can't wait until next week for your Smeared Ink fix?  Head on over to the forum to see the awesomeness that our little group has been creating.  One of the new things on the forum is a daily art journaling group.  You must check it out!  There are also monthly challenges with cool prizes.

Cheers!
