All About Betty Blog Hop

The gals from The Burtonesque Dolls, Simply Betty Stamps and Simply Betty Challenges figured it was a good time to put together a blog hop of our very own:

~SIMPLY BETTY~

This hop is ALLLLLLLLLLLLL about Betty and since October is Betty's favorite month and there are sooooo many exciting things happening, why not do it just before?!! This way we can get things warmed up for the whole October and Halloween theme. Kinda like an appie!!  This hop is dedicated to Betty to show her how much we appreciate her and her quirky art.

Since Halloween is Betty's favorite time of year you will be seeing mostly, if not all, Halloween cards decked out in Simply Betty Style!

Betty, I am so appreciative of your friendship, your humor, and your generosity.  I am constantly inspired by your creativity, your determination, and your passion.  I am so honored to be a member of your Design Team!  I am better with art than with words so hopefully my little creation will demonstrate how I feel about you.
~Cheers!~

My tribute project uses Witch Betty from the Emo Halloweenies.  They can be purchased here.  Betty is colored with Copic markers, embellished with Distress Stickles, and enhanced with Distress Inks.  I used Seven Gypsies DP, metal swirl paper clip embellies, and Halloween Journal Paper (sorry, forgot the brand, will post later).  The rose stickers are Creative Imaginations.  The pinch of reds and oranges are simply distress inks applied directly from the pad to glossy paper.

Without further ado, let's check out some more inspiring and creative cards from all the ladies. Please note because this is an appreciation blog hop there are no prizes. It's just for fun but the ladies wouldn't mind some lovin' from you anyway!!

So LET'S GET HOPPING!! You should have arrived here from Jennifer's blog.  If not, go back to the beginning for your first stop, Eulanda!!  If you get lost along the way, the blog roll is listed below.  If you've been following the order of the hop, your next stop should be the lovely Suzi.

~Roll Call~

Smeared and Smudged DT Blog Hop-September Edition

Not only is it the end of the month, but it is also the end of the first term for the Smeared Ink DT.  We've had an awesome six months and it has been a blast working with all of these lovely ladies!  In celebration, the Smeared Ink DT is having a blog hop.  We all have some amazing stamps from Smeared Ink that we have been working with over the months.  Our challenge for the end of the term blog hop was to see how we can mix them together!  We were challenged is to use at least 3 different sets to create one amazing project! We were able to use as many images as we wanted, but we had to use images from at least three different sets!

Here is my creation.  Sorry about the crappy photo.  It truly does not do the project justice!  Overall, I am actually really pleased with the way this turned out!   It has that campy feel of a B horror flick.

If you really want to go old skool, here is the same project in black and white with the Holga-ish application on picnik.  Pretty cool, huh?

I am struggling with one thing.  What should I title my lovely creation?  I'm going to try to get this published even though it's not a mainstream "happy" stamping project.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  If you could, leave your title suggestion in the comment section.  At the end of the week I will announce the winning title.

I used "Chicks Dig Guns", "Holy City", and "Build a Zombie Alphabet" for my project.  It is actually quite large for a stamped project.  It measures 7.5 x 11 inches.  The papers are DCWV.  I stamped my project with Memento ink, using masking techniques in some areas and cutting out my stamped images in other areas.  Everything is colored with copic markers.  I lost track of the colors used.  I can say that I only own the Manga set B and the figure drawing set if that helps to narrow it down. I messed up on the chick's skin tone so I did even her out with some prisma markers.  If you look closely you can see that I used a couple stamps from holy city and also repeated one of the stamps a few times to fill in the area.  The zombies were cut a bit to separate and reposition their arms.  The way I use the zombie stamps is to stamp and color the images first, then I cut them out piece by piece and assemble them.  It just works easier for me as my masking technique is not the best.  Work smarter, not harder...that's what I say!  The gate was made by the devil herself, Martha.  I attached it with brads so as not to have adhesive showing through.  The only non-smeared ink stamp is the blood splatter.  Sorry.  I don't remember who made that one.  I stamped with versa mark, used white embossing powder, heat embossed, colored with R59 copic marker, and coated with red glitter nail polish.  I think I may have a contact high going right now from the fumes!  Sorry about the long ramble!  I hope you've enjoyed what you've seen.

Here is the list of bloggers for the last DT hop of this term.  Leave everyone some love if you can.
~Cheers!~

Simply Betty Challenge #2

YAY!! We're on to our 2nd challenge of our new challenge blog and I hope you all enjoyed the first one as much as we did!! Maybe you even got to sample some new images from Simply Betty Stamps???

Oh and before I forget... all Emo Halloweenies in Rubber are now in stock and ready for shipping! Grab yours at SimplyBettyStamps.com before they are all gone! We have already plowed through more than half the inventory!!!

This week we want you to create a new Halloween color combo, diverging from the traditional BlackOrangePurple and Greens. Make a project, card or layout creating a new color combo using anything but these colors.

Ahhh you want to know what you are playing for??? This week's prize is

Now for a little inspiration to get you started, the ladies
have come up with some fabulous stuff!!  You can view the fabulous eye candy at Simply Betty Challenges.

Here is my creation for Challenge #2:

Let me tell you...I had a tough time with this challenge!  My favorite colors to use are oranges and purples with the occasional touch of green!  I find the lack of black disturbing too!  Challenges are a great way to get out of one's comfort zone and create something awesome and unexpected!

I did cheat a little and added a pumpkin, but I did my best to make the main portions of the card without Halloween Colors.  My stamped image is Witch Betty.  Isn't she hawt with her hot-pink hair?!  She just got done making a love potion with the assistance of her furry familiar, also decked-out in hot-pink.  The background paper is seven gypsies.  The star border punch is EK Success and the goo is MS.  The torn shimmery paper is DCWV and my coloring is with Copics.  I used some distress stickles, but my lighting sucks so it is hard to capture the yumminess.  The sentiment and pumpkin are just some generic stickers left over from a few Halloweens ago.

Thanks for stopping by!

31 Days of Halloween with Smeared Ink!!!

I wanted to spread this news, but am on a time crunch to get ready for work and my brain is too tired to be creative with words right now so I am "borrowing" this passage from my Smeared Ink DT friend, Danielle.  Check her blog out here as she has some cool stuff going on.

Here is what Danielle had to say, "That's right!! My FAVORITE holiday, has just became even better!! 31 Days of Halloween is happening at the Smeared and Smudged forum this October!!

If you go to the forum, the "rules" are all explained. You can be a "Wicked Blog Participant", a "Horrifying Hopper", or a "Sinister Lurker". The Wicked blog participant, has to post a stamped project to their blog every one of the 31 days of Halloween. I am TOTALLY WICKED and I am going to do this!!! If you don't want to post everyday, you can hop every day, or lurk. The choice is yours!! And did I mention the PRIZES!!! Holy crow, click the link above, and read all about the fun and prizes. It is the most awesome thing I've ever heard of!!! I am stoked!!!"

Can I just say Ditto?

I don't know what I'm going to make yet, but I will do my best to pump out 31 days of awesomeness to get everyone motivated for Halloween!  In addition to handmade stamped cards, atcs, collages, and mixed media projects I will also be sharing some of my altered photography, yard decorations, and highlighting some of my favorite Halloween based websites!  I can't wait!  I love this time of year!!!

Simply Betty Challenges- challenge #1

As a DT member of Simply Betty Challenges, I'd like to welcome you to our very first Simply Betty Challenge! I am so happy and excited you are here with us!

We hope you will enjoy the coming weekly challenges and hope you can find the time to participate. Our challenges will include some fabulous prizes, and some will be just for fun and the love of crafting! Which ever it is we promise to make if fun and exciting for you all!

Now let's get onto the first Simply Betty Challenge!

Today we have a Pattern Color Combo... create a card, a scrapbook page, or any project at all using the both the pattern and the color, or just one of the two. (Yep, those are Betty's funky socks!) You have one week to complete your project and submit it via InLinkz on the SB Challenges site.

One winner will receive TWO Rubber Stamps- Miller and London! The winner will be chosen by votes and announced in the next challenge.

Here is my take on the challenge.  I hope it gives you some inspiration to get crafty!

I choose to work with "Lola", the mummification 2.0 version!  She can be purchased here.  She is colored with copic markers and mounted upon DCWV "Grade School" mat stack.  I used my MS drippy goo punch, some alpha stickers (cheap dollar store brand), and a Halloween inspired orange ribbon.  If you look closely you can see some bling that doubles as an earring (thanks, Kathi, for the RAK).  Even mummies must be fashion forward!  Being an emo teen, brains are probably NOT what Lola is after...it's boys (or in her case, boyz).  Apparently the "Z" makes them cooler!

I hope you've enjoyed my little creation.  Be sure to head over to Simply Betty Challenges to see what the rest of the DT has made for your inspiration.  I've had a sneak peek and let me tell you, the ladies have rocked out some awesome projects!

Thanks for Stopping By!

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Hello lovelies, it's time for the Smeared and Smudged Member blog hop.  So this month we decided to keep it simple, well that's what we thought anyway. Here is what we decided... " This time our theme will be: Orange. Incorporate the color orange into your project, or make an all orange project."  Sounds simple really, right?  Well for those of us who don't use orange in our normal day to day project making it could turn out to be quite a challenge.  I personally LOVE orange and have incorporated it into many projects.  Here are some past projects I have done.

This first one uses smeared ink's "holy city" stamp set.  Colored with copic markers and mounted on Memory Box paper.  The "lost without you" sentiment is from Smeared Ink's "carnies" stamp set.

My second project uses Smeared Ink's "nymphs" stamp set.  The background is distress ink applied directly from the pad to clay paper.  The nymph was then stamped with brown staz-on ink and I added leaves with copic markers.

Now for a new project!  This is an altered tin I made (thanks, Kathi, for the RAK!) using 7 gypsies paper, a simply betty stamp from her halloween emo collection, copic markers, and distress ink in rusty hinge and black soot.  Adhesive: Modpodge.  Final coat: diamond glaze.  Ribbon around the edges with a tiny metal key and lock embellie.  Oh...the bats are from Itkupilli.  My computer keeps crashing so I'll add the links later if my computer will allow.

Here is the hop list.

Now onto the hop!
If you arrived here from from Kim's blog you are on the right track.  If not, be sure to start at the beginning so you won't miss any of the sah-weet projects the ladies have put together for you.

Today I bring you Lola and London...Halloween-ized!  Typically, I am known for my use of bold, vibrant colors.  For this hop I decided to go outside of my colorful little box and dive into my darker side.  After all, Halloween is coming!

I went for an old-skool horror feel, using black and white as well as some sepia.  Both of my lovelies are colored with copic markers and blinged out with some sparklies from my friend Kathi, who was kind enough to send me a RAK.  Of course I had to break-in my MS Dripping-Goo Punch.  Can I tell you how much I love this thing?!  Ugh!  I have been seduced by the devil!  Sorry to all Martha fans out there, but I swore I'd NEVER financially support that lady...and then she goes and makes cool punches that I cannot resist!  Darn her!  My only justification is that the punch is actually made by EK Success.  I had to tell myself that about 10 times before buying the punch!  After chanting my mantra, I was afraid Martha's garden-gloved hand would try to snatch me from the craft isle.  Paranoid am I?  Let's just say I watch too many horror flicks!

Back to the deets.  The plain and glittery paper are DCWV.  The patterned paper is 7 gypsies.  I am so in love with this batch of DP!  I ripped and shredded and glued the paper until my sticky fingers and tired mind were satisfied.  A little distress ink  and some embellies and boom!  A card is born!

Can I say how much I LOVE the Halloween Emos?  These guys and gals are so much fun to play with!  I had a blast with the Emos and just cannot stop making projects with them.  I had to truly restrain myself in posting as I wanted to share EVERYTHING I have created!  Keep a watch out for the Simply Betty Challenges...starting the 17th of this month...as the DT will be sharing more of our projects using Simply Betty Stamps
Thanks for stopping by!  Your next stop should be Linda's blog

Here is the blog list in case you get lost along the way:

Dancing by the Light of the Amber Moon

Meet Tootsie, one of the awesome "Punky Teen" digis over at Simply Betty Stamps.  Isn't she spooktacular?  I printed her on an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper, colored her with copic markers, and added some distress stickles to her hair.  I cut her out, mounted her on Halloween DP (to which I added a 12" x 12" gate die-cut), and added some Jolee pumpkins for embellishment.  The amber moon is a journal circle which I colored with distress inks and added some distress stickles.  The random bats were cut from my EK Success bat border punch.  The whole project is adhered to cardboard with modpodge.  Be sure to check out my blog on 09/15/10 for Simply Betty Challenges blog hop and new release!

Cheers!

The digi images are available for purchase Sept. 1st.  They can either be purchased as a set or as individual images.  There will be more digis to come!  Check out the shop for pricing and details.

Ready to hop?
Ohhh....wait a sec...!  There's more!
Smeared Ink is once again hosting The 31 Days of Halloween!!!!!  What's that?  It's 31 days of creative chaos with a Halloween theme of course.  There are projects posted daily for your creepy inspiration.  Prizes can be won for participants as well as blog hoppers.  There is so much info about this month-long event so rather than messing up the deets, just click the link above for the 411.

Now for my eye candy!  I was lucky enough to work with a few images from Smeared Ink's "Build a Zombie Alphabet".  Talk about a cool set!  Click the pics for a larger view.  This alphabet absolutely rocks!  The letters are gory and gross!  Perfect for Halloween greetings!  The zombies come in separate parts so they can be mixed and matched to create the perfect combo of creep!  I had so much fun with these images!  I'll have to get the rest of the set!!!

For my first card, I colored my zombie parts and the graveyard with copic markers.  The graveyard background is from Smeared Ink's "Holy City" rubber stamp set.  Don't these sets look like they are made for eachother?  The cardstock is DCWV and the goo border punch is MS.  I did add some diamond glaze for some shine.

My second card also utilizes DCWV cardstock and the Devil's goo border punch.  Here you can get a look at the zombie alphabet which I colored with copics, punched out with a 1 inch circle punch, and glued into beer caps.  Some of my glue oozed out by the zombie's foot.  I like the look so much that I'm going to add some more glue and let it drip and dry to resemble slime.  FYI...diamond glaze can be tinted!  I'm thinking toxic green or blood red would be cool!  The zombies (from Build a Zombie Alphabet) and graveyard are also colored with copic markers.  The graveyard background here is also from Smeared Ink's "Holy City" rubber stamp set.  The bat brads are Making Memories.

Here's my thrifty tip of the day:  Buy your beer caps from a liquor store or an online store that sells microbrewing supplies.  It's way cheaper than anything you can buy at the craft stores.  Of course recycling is even thriftier with the added bonus of being able to toss back a few cold ones!

Now for the blog list:
Lady Brayton<-----Me!)

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out everyones' work and leave them some love. Also, check out Smeared Ink's ning group "Smeared and Smudged". They have challenges, prizes, tutorials, and an awesome group of ladies and gents.
