He woke up dead!

IMG_1448, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

I have been so busy lately! I'm back at work now after a 4 week illness. Although it is good to be feeling better and great to be making money again, I really miss my time off. Here is a very belated picture of one of my handmade corpses. He is affectionately named Gramps. I'll be posting more pics of my graveyard this weekend and hopefully posting some scrap and card challenge pics as well.

I love itkupilli!

IMG_1510, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

Here is another card featuring "the butterfly queen" from bombshell stamps. The digi images (praying skeleton, flowers, pumpkins, skulls, bat, witch's hat, and background) are all from www.itkupilli.com. I mounted everything on decorative halloween cardstock. I absolutely Love, love, LOVE her images! I am in the process of making ornaments and jewelry using her images and will post them when done. I am so excited to use her images in my future work. You should check her out!

Good is a matter of opinion

Here is a Halloween card I made using alcohol inks on transparency, bombshell "butterfly queen" stamp, patterned cardstock from K and Company, a frog cut-out from K and Company. I don't remember the manufacturer of the bat and cemetery stamps. The bombshell stamp was colored with markers and prisma colored pencils. Enjoy!

pumpkin halloween card

pumpkin halloween card, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

My goodness! I almost forgot I had this card! This was made with ink-a-doo stamps, prisma colored pencils, ink, and a sharpie. Once again, inspired by Smeared and Smudged 31 days of Halloween.

itchy witch

I'm not sure that this card has the impact I wanted, but it is still cute. I made this for Smeared and Smudged 31 days of Halloween. Once again it uses Tim Holtz alcohol inks (I'm totally addicted) and Ink-a-Doo stamps.

Oh, Great Pumpkin

alcohol ink halloween card, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

Here is another card inspired by 31 days of Halloween on Smeared and Smudged. You should check out the blog. It has cool project ideas and challenges. Following this blog has really helped me to tap into my creative side. Also, since I've been having some health issues lately, the blog has been a great way to get my mind off of my issues and channel that energy into a positive outlet.

I made this card with Tim Holtz alcohol ink (caramel, cranberry, and ginger), transparency sheet, archival ink, and stamps. I used the alcohol inks on a transparency sheet then stamped it and mounted it on yellow cardstock. It was so simple and gives a cool effect. The pumpkin stamp was from ink-a-doo. I don't remember who made the bat stamps. Since I make my alcohol ink transparency sheets ahead of time, this card literally took 2 minutes to stamp and assemble.

Drink of the Dead

IMG_1326, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

I am so excited about this project. I've been having friends and neighbors save empty glass bottles for me. Due to the fact that most of these bottles previously had liquor in them, I cleaned them out with dish soap and bleach to get rid of the stickiness and smell.

I peeled off the original labels, cleaned with rubbing alcohol, and applied a layer of Mod Podge. I found the spooky bottle labels at Spirit Halloween. They can also be found at Party City and are way cheap! After sticking the labels in place, I applied a few more layers of Mod Podge and added some decorative twine.

After my bottles are dry, I will probably fill the bottles with alcohol and food coloring mix. I don't want to use plain water because I really don't feel like growing mold or funkiness. Perhaps I will fill the bottles with a tinted epoxy for a slimy effect. I'm open for suggestions. What should I fill my bottles with?

eat crow

eat crow, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

A very simple card, but cute. I used alcohol inks on transparency, mounted on DCWV light cardstock. The crow and pumpkin die-cuts are from K and Company. The spider stamp is by ink-a-doo. I tried to make it look like a black widow, but my brad wasn't cooperating.

When using alcohol inks, I tend to make a bunch of papers/backgrounds at once so when inspiration hits I can just stamp and assemble my projects. This saves me time and lets me do my messy stuff all at once.

Enjoy!

Halloween Cube

This Halloween Cube is so easy to make and it can be customized for any holiday or event.
Here are the step-by-step directions:

1.) Cut out two strips of paper, each measuring 10"x2".

2.) Score each strip of paper in increments of 2"x2" squares

3.) Fold on the score lines.

4.) Glue the middle square of each strip forming a cross.

5.) Stamp or decorate each square. In my project, I stamped on cardstock then added a 2"x2" overlay of alcohol inked transparency. I did some embossing as well. If I had glossy cardstock, I could have inked and stamped at once and saved a step, but I just used what I had on hand. You can decorate with all photos, die-cuts, stamps, stickers, etc.

6.) Punch 2 holes in the middle of the topmost decorated square. I choose to use eyelets so I could tie a string without ripping the paper. If doing a photo cube for a desktop, punching holes is not necessary.

7.) Use your favorite adhesive and assemble into a cube. Super easy!

I just wanted to add one thing. With the economy being in such sad shape and art supplies being costly, don't trash a project just because a mistake is made. Some of my best work resulted from reworking a mishap. I even messed up this project! I just replaced my defective 2x2 square with a new one (glued right on top of the old). I hope this was helpful.

Afraid? Roll in the gutter!

afraid layout, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

This layout is a bit more girly than my usual work. It also doesn't feature a photo, but I decided to make this layout more like an art journal page than a scrapbook page.

Time to roll in the gutter!

It's that time again, time to take a stroll in the gutter and play along with the new Gutter Girlz challenge! Here it is:

THE PROMPT:
Tender. Human.
THE SONG:
Afraid by Nelly Furtado
PRODUCT/TECHNIQUE:
Bra Straps

** NO ONE used a BRA STRAP on their projects!! I double dare you to do it!! (Nikki came the closest, with a photo and her bra showing in it)

*I used alcohol inks on transparency and mounted it on white cardstock. I didn't want to cut up my good bras so I cut up and old one and used ribbon with my bra hardware to make new straps. This layout is very personal to me and was hard to post. enjoy

The "itis"

itis 2, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

I spent my lovely weekend with a visit to the emergency room. I had a fever, couldn't breathe, and was coughing up all types of yuckies. Despite starting antibiotics two days prior to my hospital visit, my fever started to soar. Although I didn't think I had the flu, the recent deaths from H1N1 in my area were enough motivation for me to get my tush to the hospital. Thankfully, I don't have the swine flu. I do, however, have a wicked case of bronchitis. I've now missed one full week of work and am still not better. I still cannot take a deep breath or stop coughing. I am completely exhausted. I see the pulmonologist tomorrow so hopefully she will find a way to help me get better so I can get back to living.

healthcare

healthcare, originally uploaded by ladybrayton71.

I'm not quite finished with this layout, but I wanted to post it anyway. I was looking through some oncology medical journals and was disgusted when every single add in the magazine was about &money$. Every picture in this collage was found in the various journals I looked through.

U don't really want to mess with me

Ok. I haven't mastered posting pictures to blogs. Please click on the photos to see the full image. All images are linked to my flickr account so feel free to browse that as well.

Work has been crazy. I decided that no matter how tired I am, I need to create in order to preserve what little sanity I have left. This layout is my first attempt at using magazine cut-outs in a collage. Once again, this layout is inspired by Gutter Girlz!

playing with photoshop

I am determined to learn how to create digital art on photoshop. Because I am, or was, computer illiterate this has proven to be quite the task for me. Here is my first attempt. I'm not pleased with the result, but I've got to start somewhere. Hopefully the next item I post will be a bit better. Practice...practice...practice.
